About The Event
Connect on TAP is a networking event for creatives working in all disciplines and art enthusiasts. In this special “Ting edition”, Dan Brown, former columnist of the London Free Press will moderate a conversation with two Ting Artist Alumni – DS Barrick and Derek Laufman. Brown will talk to both about creating, self-publishing and crowdfunding comics!
Barrick has a brand-new graphic novel that he is currently crowdfunding on Fundrazr called Murgatroyd & Nepenthe, the project is already fully funded. The book is inspired by a love of classic cartoons and comic strips, and Barrick’s fascination with random processes like the cut-up technique, Eno Schmidt’s Oblique Strategies, and Noah Wall’s Grotesque Tables. The result is a cohesive narrative, but one that’s constantly twisting and turning in surprising, comical, and uncanny directions. Laufman is currently working on a new fantasy adventure comic called Crimsonfall: Lambs of God, to debut at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this Spring. He’s the creator of the graphic novels Bot-9 and the Witch of Wickerson, which were both successfully fully funded on Kickstarter. He also has a regular Patreon.
And as part of every Connect on TAP, this is another opportunity to learn about our creative hub, meet our staff, and participate in an Ask/Give/Announce.
